Nolan Home for Wayward Refugees, 33 Apocalypse, Friday Evening

The menu finally planned, the guests on their way -- or already arrived, and dinner already cooking, Ronan felt prepared for dinner.

The smells -- and sounds -- coming out of his kitchen were probably enough to make his guests mouth water, but that was, really, par for the course when it came to Ronan. And no, you weren't allowed into the kitchen to help.

[Up early-ish for SP; open to all the Wayward Refugees, OCD on its way!]

Jack cleared his throat out of minor social embarrassment.

"As it happened, one of my professors did not find saving the world enough excuse for the missed final, and ... other things lined up so that it made more sense for me to take a leave of absence for the term," he said. "It turned into a long story. I'm not actually quite sure what I'll do until I can start back in May."

Isabel winced in sympathy. "Oh ouch. I was worried about that but somehow when we got back, exams were over and I'd passed. I wasn't going to argue." Instead she chalked it up to creative remembering.

"You're welcome to visit Vegas," she offered. "Or for the truly out of this world. I can take you back to visit Roswell and all it's alien related insanity."

"I'll remember that," Jack promised. "I'm not sure I've ever been that far west, actually. It would be a nice place to warm up after Moscow."

"I would think," she said, shuddering at the thought of a Moscow winter. "It's in the 50s during the day right now which isn't bad. But come in August when it's 110. That'll warm you up."
