The menu finally planned, the guests on their way -- or already arrived, and dinner already cooking, Ronan felt prepared for dinner.

The smells -- and sounds -- coming out of his kitchen were probably enough to make his guests mouth water, but that was, really, par for the course when it came to Ronan. And no, you weren't allowed into the kitchen to help.

Isabel shook her head. "I'll pass. That could only end in tears."

"Not a drinker?" Jack asked, though he should have noticed she'd passed on the drinks with dinner. "It's all right. Honestly, I like the idea of this better than the taste anyhow."

He was not a fan of anise.

"Sadly no. It's an alien side effect. One sip and I'm pretty much plastered," she explained. "I'd prefer not to embarrass myself too badly."

"It would be horrible if you did anything unbecoming to your dignity as an almost-married lady," Jack said, with a twitch of his lips.

Isabel couldn't help but snicker. "You mean like the absinthe fueled orgy?"

"For example," Jack said, not missing a beat. "You have to admit, it'd make this a memorable dinner party."

"That is true. But that one," she said pointing towards Ronan, "Would probably die of smugness. And we can't have that happening."
