The menu finally planned, the guests on their way -- or already arrived, and dinner already cooking, Ronan felt prepared for dinner.

The smells -- and sounds -- coming out of his kitchen were probably enough to make his guests mouth water, but that was, really, par for the course when it came to Ronan. And no, you weren't allowed into the kitchen to help.

"If I see gremlins, I'm blaming you," Parker warned, sitting up with a smirk. She studied the sugar, the spoon, the glass. "Although it has to be safer than the things I've seen people ingest at Burning Man."

"Burning man's the one in the desert, isn't it?" Jack asked, interested. "I've never been. Do you like it?"

He poured water into the glass, put the sugarcube on a spoon balanced over its rim, and passed her the open absinthe bottle. He blinked a bit as he did -- the fumes were, ah, special.

Parker carefully poured some of the absinthe, and said, "Bizarrely, yes. It offends every physical sensibility I have-- it's dusty, dirty, hot, and overcrowded. But there's amazing art, and people doing highly amusing things. And the food is good."

Jack fixed his own drink, adding only a small splash of absinthe. "Funny. I'd never think of going to make art in the desert as being an opportunity to dine well."

"The place largely works on a barter system. So you either bring your own food, or you bring food to trade for the art goods. Zero usually takes care of that part," Parker admitting, reaching for her glass and taking a small sip. Licorice-y and sugary and bitter, at the same time. "While people also share other types of goods, they're not the kind I'd want to sample. God knows where they cooked them up."

Jack sipped his own drink, nodding. "I've had some good experiences trying things that came from god knows where, but it's not something you want to do in the middle of the desert."

"Not even slightly," Parker had to admit. "They have good paramedics there, we've helped a few times with emergencies." She took another sip, and felt a flush of heat in her face. "Mmm. Interesting... but I wouldn't want a real doctor out in the middle of nowhere."
